Data Centre Humidification

Data centre humidification and temperature control

In light with the ever-increasing demand for online resources and real-time data transmission, the number of data centres worldwide has begun to increase exponentially. Maintaining operational temperature and humidity levels in data centres is critical to modern enterprises that run on computers.

Data centres and server rooms are physical facilities, such as building or rooms in a building, that are used to house critical storage and computing resources. Their purpose is to collect, store, process, and distribute shared applications and data. A typical data center design will include switches, routers, firewalls, servers, storage systems, and application controllers. These components are designed to operate at specific temperature and humidity levels, and failing to keep within the recommended levels can potentially damage these expensive equipment.

Recommended and temperature and humidity levels for data centers

The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) has published guidelines on humidity and temperature level standards for data centres. Depending on the types of equipment installed in your facility, and classes of data centre equipment (A1, A2, A3 and A4) you have, the temperature range could be from 18 to 27 °C, while the relative humidity could range from 50% to 70%.

One of the most common methods of data centre humidification and temperature control is the use of evaporative cooling. Compared to traditional air conditioning, evaporative cooling is more energy efficient, does not require hazardous refrigerants, costs less to operate and maintain, and is cheaper to install.

At EMergyKool, we have a group of VAC experts that can help design a custom-made data centre humidification and temperature control strategy to achieve the specific environmental conditions required by your equipments.

Benefit of Data Center Humidification
  • Achieve both cooling and humidification
  • Can be used in any climate
  • More energy efficient
  • Low running and maintenance costs
  • No water treatment required
